Grabbing people’s attention with a great big sign outside your business is one of the best strategies around. Eye-catching signage engages customers and imparts information. At Digiprint, we understand that great signage needs to look attractive, but also clearly express what you’re trying to get across. Here are 5 design tips we believe can do both.
Boost the Resolution
Make sure you use high enough resolution images. Signage tends to be fairly large, so you will need a high quality image that can stand being blown up. There’s nothing worse than having a pixelated background image on your otherwise perfect signage design.
Contrast is Key
With signage in particular, the aim is to grab people’s attention. So, make your text stand out by putting thought into the colour. Black text on a yellow background or black on white will draw the eyes directly to the text, but green on red would be near unreadable. Don’t have a busy background, and if you want to make text stand out from other text, change the fonts slightly.
Pick a Colour
Every colour expresses something different, so choose one that will express your desired message. Black will say sophistication and mystery when you’re trying to convey warmth and cheerfulness – go with yellow instead.
Text Size Matters
Draw people in by increasing the size of your text, and remember hierarchy here. You want to keep the title size at the largest, and then decrease in size with the subtitle, and any body text last. This will clarify what’s most important, and not confuse customers by muddling information together in one big text size.
Be Simple and Concise
Don’t allow your design elements to confuse the final message that you’re trying to get across. Above all, make sure your design is simple and to the point. In a busy high street, you may have seconds to make a difference before people’s attention is diverted.
